Petrobras Búzios Field achieves one million barrels daily
The Búzios Field holds production records with wells over 2,000 m deep, and operates six platforms, including the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré (225,000 bpd), with FPSO P-78 starting soon.

The Búzios field, operated by Petrobras in the Santos Basin, reached on Wednesday (10/29) a record daily average production of 1 million barrels per day, surpassing the previous mark of 900 thousand reached in August. The largest field in the country in reserves, Búzios is the second Petrobras field to exceed the production mark of 1 million barrels per day. The first was Tupi, also located in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin.
"The trajectory of Petrobras is marked by overcoming challenges, exploring new geological frontiers, and developing technologies. Every time they said it couldn't be done, our technical team went there and did it. Today, 80% of our production comes from the pre-salt, where we have two giant fields, Búzios and Tupi. Each achievement is a motivation for us to continue surpassing the boundaries of knowledge and to generate, with responsibility and safety, the energy that Brazil needs," said Petrobras President Magda Chambriard.
The Búzios field has achieved successive production records and contains the most productive wells in the country, located more than 2,000 meters deep on the seabed. The thickness of its reservoir is equivalent to the height of Sugarloaf Mountain, and its extension is more than twice the size of Guanabara Bay. The field has six production units in operation: platforms P-74, P-75, P-76, P-77, and the FPSOs Almirante Barroso and Almirante Tamandaré, the latter being the largest in production capacity in the country, with 225,000 barrels per day. A new unit, the FPSO P-78, arrived at the field last month and is currently undergoing well interconnection procedures to begin production soon.
Innovative and outstanding in management practices, the Búzios 7 project—which, in addition to the Almirante Tamandaré platform, includes all subsea infrastructure such as pipelines and wells—received today (10/30) the OTC Brasil Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies from the Offshore Technology Conference, one of the world's most important technology events focused on the offshore oil and gas sector.
The technologies awarded by the OTC include the closed flare system, which helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, and heat recovery systems, which lower the unit's additional energy demand.
The Búzios field is located in ultra-deep waters in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin (at depths of up to 2,100 meters), 180 km off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro. Búzios was discovered by Petrobras in 2010 and began operations in 2018. It is operated by Petrobras in partnership with CNOOC and CNPC, along with PPSA.
