Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and SLB have integrated an AI-driven Real-Time Operations Center across more than 120 onshore and offshore drilling rigs. The system centralizes live operational data within a sovereign cloud digital infrastructure to support automated analytics and risk mitigation in upstream operations.
Operational Challenge and System Architecture
Managing complex upstream workflows across a widely dispersed rig fleet requires consistent data management and rapid analytical response. Fragmented data streams and manual reporting traditionally create operational latency and high engineering overhead, while strict data sovereignty regulations require local storage and processing of critical telemetry.
To address these requirements, SLB supplied its well delivery and insights software, which was integrated directly into the sovereign cloud infrastructure of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. This architecture keeps operational data within national borders while establishing a unified interface for business, asset, and drilling teams across the entire fleet.
Technical Integration and System Performance
The platform combines live telemetry streams, automated operational dashboards, and predictive analytics algorithms. By processing raw drilling data into structured operational metrics, the system reduces engineering effort by 30% to 40%. This efficiency gain enables individual engineers to maintain effective oversight across two to three times more rigs compared to previous manual workflows. Analytical processing that previously required a full day is completed within minutes, and multi-day reporting cycles are reduced to several hours.
The system continuously monitors operational parameters to detect potential mechanical or process anomalies before escalation occurs. This continuous monitoring capability reduces incident response times by 4 to 12 hours and prevents an estimated one to two days of non-productive rig downtime per event.
Strategic Implementation
"DrillOps transforms real-time drilling data into operational intelligence that helps teams make faster, more informed decisions," said Rakesh Jaggi, president, Digital, SLB. "Deployed within ADNOC’s sovereign cloud environment, the technology provides the scalable digital foundation for AI-enabled workflows across one of the industry’s largest rig fleets and supports the continued progression toward more autonomous operations."
