Halliburton has entered into an agreement with Basra Oil Company to deliver Integrated Field Management Services and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management for oil and gas development in southern Iraq. The collaboration addresses operational challenges associated with sub-surface data integration, well delivery performance, and the capture of associated natural gas.
Basra Oil Company maintains full ownership, operatorship, and decision-making authority over the assets. Halliburton provides technical expertise, engineering capabilities, and project management oversight to support asset performance and workforce development initiatives established by the Ministry of Oil.
Digital Architecture and Technical Implementation
The technical solution relies on the deployment of specialized digital solutions to establish an integrated operational network. This architecture connects subsurface geological insights directly to well construction, daily production operations, and long-term planning routines.
By linking real-time execution data with predictive sub-surface models, the system enables continuous monitoring and faster decision-making cycles. The scope covers:
- Field development planning: Structural subsurface modeling and field-wide reservoir simulation.
- Production optimization: Integration of sensor data to streamline flow management and upstream operations.
- EPCM services: Standardized engineering and procurement workflows to upgrade field infrastructure.
Target Objectives and Operational Impact
The primary operational goal involves expanding upstream crude oil throughput while capturing associated natural gas for domestic power generation networks. The development strategy directly supports industrial infrastructure requirements by mitigating gas flaring and reducing reliance on external fuel imports.
During the initial five-year development phase at the Bin Umar field, technical projections estimate output targets of up to 150,000 barrels per day of crude oil alongside 300 million standard cubic feet of associated gas per day. The systematic capture and treatment of this gas stream provides immediate feedstock for national grid infrastructure while improving overall operational sustainability.
"We will work alongside BOC as a technical and project management provider to integrate workflows, digital solutions, and execution expertise to maximize asset value. We look forward to collaboration with BOC to advance Iraq’s production, infrastructure, and associated gas development objectives", said Zaid Khadra, Vice President, Middle East North Africa, Halliburton.
