PETRONAS, through its wholly-owned subsidiary PETRONAS Suriname E&P B.V. (PSEPBV), has recorded two new hydrocarbon discoveries and completed a successful appraisal well in offshore Block 52 in Suriname. These results bring the company's cumulative achievements to a total of eight successful wells in the country, collectively unlocking recoverable resources exceeding one billion barrels of oil equivalent.

Exploration and Appraisal Drilling Results
The Caiman-1 exploration well was drilled in 90 meters of water to a total depth of 5,065 meters and encountered multiple oil-bearing Cretaceous sandstone intervals.

The Swartzia Aspasia Complex-1 (SAC-1) exploration well, situated 8 kilometers east of the Sloanea-1 gas discovery, was drilled in a water depth of 610 meters to a total depth of 4,560 meters. This well intersected gas-bearing sandstone reservoirs, where drill stem testing (DST) demonstrated strong gas deliverability, indicating stable reservoir quality.

To evaluate previous findings, the Roystonea-2 appraisal well was drilled 7 kilometers north of Roystonea-1. The well confirmed the lateral extent of the oil-bearing reservoirs, with DST results indicating high oil productivity and validating the extent of the reservoir system.

Equity Participation and Regional Footprint
PETRONAS operates Block 52 with an 80 percent participating interest, while the remaining 20 percent interest is held by Paradise Oil Company N.V. (POC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V. (Staatsolie). Block 52 is located within an offshore corridor known as the Golden Lane. Beyond this block, PETRONAS holds participating interests in a total of eight offshore blocks in Suriname, which encompass Blocks 9, 10, 48, 52, 53, 63, 64, and 66.

Operational Timeline and Field Development
These exploration successes follow the declaration of commerciality for the Sloanea gas field in November 2025. The project partners are targeting a final investment decision on its development by the end of 2026. The cumulative data collected strengthens the case for multiple oil and gas developments in Block 52 as Suriname emerges as a deepwater hub in the broader Suriname-Guyana basin.

“Eight successful wells in Suriname with recoverable resources of more than one billion barrels of oil equivalent unlocked, reflect the strength of our technical capabilities, disciplined execution, and strong partnership in Suriname. Block 52 sits within a highly prospective corridor, the Golden Lane, and we remain focused on translating this resource base into long-term value for Suriname and for PETRONAS.” — Mohd Jukris Abdul Wahab, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President & Chief Executive Officer of Upstream, PETRONAS.
