ABB Launches Integrated Gas Analyzer Package for CCUS
ABB introduces a turnkey analyzer shelter combining laser spectroscopy, gas chromatography and FTIR technologies to monitor CO₂ purity across carbon capture, transport and storage.

ABB has introduced its first fully integrated gas analyzer package for Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) applications. The solution combines three established ABB analyzer technologies into a single modular system designed to provide continuous, real-time CO₂ impurity measurement throughout the CCUS value chain.
The offering targets hard-to-abate sectors including cement, waste-to-energy, oil refining, bioenergy, LNG, power generation and chemicals, where maintaining CO₂ stream quality is critical for transport and storage.
Integrated CO₂ Stream Quality Monitoring
The analyzer package consolidates the Sensi+ CCUS laser gas analyzer, the GCP100 process gas chromatograph and the ACF5000 CCUS FTIR system into a unified, shelter-based solution.
- Sensi+ CCUS uses laser-based spectroscopy for rapid detection of critical contaminants at low concentration levels with minimal cross-interference.
- GCP100 provides chromatographic analysis of gases not detectable by infrared methods, supporting detection of inert and non-IR-active components. The system includes cybersecurity features and predictive maintenance functions.
- ACF5000 CCUS applies Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) technology to measure a broad spectrum of CO₂-related components, including trace impurities, even in high-CO₂ and challenging process environments.
By integrating these technologies, the system covers a wide range of impurities such as hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), moisture, oxygen and inert gases.
Managing CO₂ Purity and Compliance
Impurity control is critical in CCUS networks. Variations in CO₂ composition can influence compressibility, increase corrosion risk and lead to non-compliance with pipeline specifications. Exceeding impurity limits may result in rejection from CO₂ transport networks, requiring venting or reprocessing of captured emissions.
The ABB package provides continuous real-time measurement to help operators maintain compliance with purity standards and protect pipeline infrastructure. Centralizing multiple measurement technologies in one analyzer shelter simplifies engineering, reduces integration effort and supports measurement consistency from capture to storage.
Modular Shelter Design and Digital Integration
The analyzers are delivered in a fully equipped, modular shelter, offering a turnkey approach to CCUS measurement infrastructure. The design reduces procurement complexity and streamlines installation across carbon capture facilities, compression stations and injection sites.
The solution is supported by ABB’s global service network and asset health monitoring tools. Device diagnostics can be accessed through Dynamic QR Codes and on-premise or cloud-based condition monitoring systems.
The analyzer package can be integrated with ABB’s CCS 360 platform, which applies digital twin technology to plan, monitor and optimize carbon capture network performance over the lifecycle of the installation.
Supporting Industrial Decarbonization
As CCUS deployment expands across industrial sectors, reliable measurement of CO₂ purity becomes a prerequisite for safe transport and long-term storage. By combining laser spectroscopy, gas chromatography and FTIR analysis in a single platform, ABB provides a comprehensive monitoring solution to support operational integrity and regulatory compliance in carbon capture infrastructure.
