Xijiang Oilfields 24 Block Development Project
Project start-up and location
CNOOC Limited has commenced production at the Xijiang Oilfields 24 Block Development Project, located in shallow waters of the Pearl River Mouth Basin. The project expands output from the Xijiang oilfield area by leveraging nearby existing infrastructure to reduce development complexity.
Development concept and facilities
The development is primarily tied back to adjacent Huixi Oilfields facilities, supplemented by a newly installed unmanned wellhead platform. A total of ten development wells are planned for commissioning as part of the project.
The Xijiang 24-7 platform is China’s first unmanned offshore installation designed specifically for high-temperature fluid cooling and export. Its integrated temperature control system mitigates the effects of elevated fluid temperatures on subsea pipelines, supporting stable and continuous production under demanding operating conditions.
Production profile and reservoir characteristics
The project is expected to reach a plateau production level of approximately 18,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2026. Produced hydrocarbons are classified as light crude, supporting efficient handling and processing within the existing offshore infrastructure.
Engineering relevance
By combining unmanned platform operation with targeted thermal management for subsea flowlines, the Xijiang 24 Block development illustrates an approach to improving operational reliability and lifecycle efficiency in shallow-water offshore fields, particularly where high-temperature production presents integrity and flow assurance challenges.
