CNOOC Advances Competitive Edge with Start-Up of Weizhou 11-4 Adjustment and Satellite Fields

CNOOC Limited has initiated production at the Weizhou 11-4 Oilfield Adjustment and Satellite Fields Development Project, reinforcing its position in efficient, integrated offshore operations. Located in the Beibu Gulf Basin of the South China Sea at an average depth of 43 meters, the project builds on the company’s strategy of maximizing recovery through close coupling with existing infrastructure. This approach continues to distinguish CNOOC’s development model from competitors that require larger standalone platforms or more extensive installations.

Integrated Facilities for Streamlined Production
The development uses a newly constructed unmanned wellhead platform linked to a central processing platform, both connected to an existing facility via a trestle bridge. By consolidating operations in this manner, CNOOC reduces operating complexity and capital expenditure while accelerating time to first oil. A total of 35 wells—28 for production and 7 for water injection—will be brought online. Peak output is expected to reach about 16,900 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2026, producing light crude.

Coordinated Offshore–Onshore Model
A key differentiating feature of the project is its coordinated “three offshore processing centers plus one onshore terminal” scheme. This model enhances gathering and transportation efficiency, supports balanced reservoir management and strengthens supply reliability for the surrounding region. It also positions the project as a scalable hub for future developments, an increasingly important advantage as offshore operators worldwide seek ways to extend field life while controlling emissions and operational costs.

Full Ownership Ensuring Operational Continuity
CNOOC Limited holds full ownership and operatorship of the project, allowing the company to apply its preferred development concepts without compromise. The start-up of Weizhou 11-4 marks another demonstration of CNOOC’s capability to deploy compact, integrated and adaptive offshore technologies—an area where the company continues to differentiate itself across the South China Sea and beyond.
